Join us Sundays at 9:30 AM

Thank you so much for visiting our website.  Let me answer two questions you have about the church but rarely ask out loud are: "What is a church for?" and "What good is it?"  Those sound like the same question, but they aren't.  The first question speaks about the purpose of the church and the second speaks of the value of the church.

In answering those questions, we show what matters about Breakwater church.  Jesus says that all churches, including Breakwater church, exist because worship doesn't  (Matthew 28:18-20). This is another way of saying that we exist to worship and to help God create worshippers.

The second question is why so many have walked away from the church or "institutional religion."  They have asked the question and come up with the answer, "Not much" or "Nothing."  Sadly, they have answered in this way because they haven't considered the role the church plays in their worship.  Worship isn't only an act or activity, but it is the core longing of every human heart.  It's synonyms aren't only ritual or chapel, but satisfaction, delight, and gladness.

How does the church accomplish this purpose?  The gospel, also known as the keys of heaven, is the only tool given to the church to accomplish its purpose.  To learn more about the gospel, you can watch the video below.

But why do I need the church and why do you need the church?  Once you have laid hold of the gospel, you will spend the rest of your life on this earth growing in your understanding of the gospel and what Paul calls "the law of faith."  Put differently, "If I have received such breathtaking grace from God, how in the world can I live enjoying and spreading its beauty?" (See Matthew 18:21-35)  The church is where God teaches this to you because its in the church where you will be required to obey the gospel because there you learn to extend grace, love your enemies, show mercy, and more!  You need a church because you need the gospel.  So if you want to know more about the gospel or if you need a place to learn more about grace, join us for a sunday service.  Click here for more details!
